GRID from zero, 6 of 7: join the GRID, step by step

Part 6 of 7 in GRID from zero. Parts 1 to 5 said what the GRID is, how it pays and where money sits. Now the doing.
Before you start
- a machine that runs Docker
- a public https address for it: a hostname, not a bare IP address
- a wallet address for your earnings
1. Pick a kind
Open taifoon.io/hosting/join, or grid.taifoon.dev, which leads there. Choose GPU, RPC endpoint, storage or FPGA.
2. Fill two or three fields
- your wallet
- your machine's address. For an RPC endpoint, give its URL and the blockchain it serves.
- for storage, how much to commit: 64 or 256 MB to start
3. Run the one command
The page writes it for you. For storage it looks like this:
1curl -fsSL https://grid.taifoon.dev/node/taifoon-node.tar.gz | docker load2docker run -d --name taifoon-node --restart unless-stopped \3 -e TAIFOON_OWNER=0xYourWallet \4 -e TAIFOON_KINDS=storage \5 -e TAIFOON_ENDPOINT=https://your-box.example \6 -e TAIFOON_STORAGE_MB=256 \7 -v taifoon-node:/data \8 taifoon/nodeThe first line loads the Taifoon node. Its checksum is published beside it, so you can verify the file before you run it. The second line starts the node with your wallet, your kind and your address.
4. Taifoon probes it
The node registers your machine with Taifoon, and Taifoon probes it. It is listed the moment a probe passes. From then on it reports every 5 minutes, and earns GRID each hour it passes, as part 2 described.
5. Check that it was seen
Press Check my node on the join page, or open your cockpit.
Two optional lines
TAIFOON_PAYOUT=cashasks to be paid in USDC rather than GRID, once cash payouts are switched on (part 2)TAIFOON_REF=0x…names the wallet that referred you. It earns a referral share of what your machine earns, and it cannot be your own wallet.
You open no account anywhere else. Taifoon is the one provider buyers see.
Next: part 7, your cockpit.
Pick a kind, fill two or three fields, copy one command.
